Introduction

Obtaining a single subject credential in mathematics enables you to teach mathematics in middle and high schools. To earn a mathematics teaching credential in California requires a validation that you have subject matter competency in one of the following ways:

- Passing single-subject California Subject Examinations for Teachers approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). Its content is designed to determine if you meet the minimun standards with respect to knowledge of mathematics for teaching.
- Complete a CTC-approved subject matter program, major, or graduate degree in each core subject area.
