The pole of a magnet is where the magnetic field is strongest — the lines of force collect there.

The convention is that lines of force start from the north and end at the south. The arrows drawn on the lines of force can also be taken to mean the direction a compass needle would point along the line.


The magnetic field lines start from the north pole of a magnet and end at the south pole.
